About Us

The PEI Parkinson Association (PEIPA) is dedicated to easing the burden of Parkinson’s disease on Islanders through advocacy, education, research, and the provision of support services for those living with Parkinson’s disease, their families, and caregivers.

Who We Are

For over 20 years, the local Parkinson support group on Prince Edward Island has been a beacon of hope and community for Islanders affected by Parkinson’s disease. With limited resources and funding, we have worked tirelessly to provide meaningful support and foster a sense of connection among our members. Our efforts would not have been possible without the contributions of the many individuals who have shaped and continue to shape our journey.

Our History

Before our incorporation, we operated as a local chapter of Parkinson Canada, organizing fundraisers such as the PEI Parkinson SuperWalk and offering essential services like support group meetings, exercise classes, and voice therapy sessions. These initiatives provided vital resources and community engagement for Islanders living with Parkinson’s.

On May 3, 2023, we took an important step forward, incorporating as a not-for-profit organization under the name PEI Parkinson Association (PEIPA). This change allowed us to become an independent provincial voice for Islanders impacted by Parkinson’s disease.

What We Do and Why

Today, PEIPA continues to build on its legacy, offering many of the same programs and services, now with all fundraising efforts invested directly back into our local community. Through our advocacy, educational initiatives, and support services, we are committed to addressing the unique challenges faced by individuals with Parkinson’s disease, their families, and caregivers.

Our mission is not only to provide immediate support but also to cultivate a stronger, more inclusive community that uplifts and empowers everyone affected by Parkinson’s disease.
